Sculpture Specialist Transport By HIAB Truck

The newest addition to Cobh’s waterfront, a towering 3.6m Sea Shanty sculpture, is on the move! Commissioned by Garry and Anne Wilson and crafted by renowned British steel fabricator Ray Lonsdale, this impressive statue—depicting a shantyman mid-song—has made its way down from Belfast, courtesy of Phelan Haulage. Tasked with transporting and carefully placing the statue into storage, Phelan Haulage’s HIAB truck is the perfect choice for this heavyweight job.

Using their specialised HIAB truck, equipped with a hydraulic crane, Phelan Haulage secured the sculpture for the journey to Cork, ensuring every detail was meticulously handled to protect this twice life-size steel artwork. Known for expertly lifting and hauling oversized loads, the Phelan team managed the statue’s safe arrival at its temporary location.

The sculpture is set to be installed at Cobh’s Five Foot Way car park in the coming weeks, where it will stand as a dramatic, permanent tribute to the town’s maritime heritage. Until then, Phelan Haulage has delivered it safely into storage—an impressive job that’s one step closer to bringing this powerful piece to life on the Cobh seafront. Keep an eye out for updates as the big installation day approaches!
