Delivering Two Scandinavian-Style Beach Saunas to Tynemouth
At Phelan Haulage, we’re proud to have played a key role in bringing two new Scandinavian-style beach saunas to the promenade at Longsands Beach.
The project involved lifting the prefabricated sauna units from the main road and carefully positioning them onto the seafront promenade, an operation that required precision, planning, and the right equipment.
A Carefully Planned HIAB Lift
Working in a busy coastal location always presents its own challenges. Access restrictions, public safety, and the exposed environment all had to be considered well in advance. Our team planned the lift in detail, coordinating timings to minimise disruption while ensuring the highest safety standards throughout.
Using one of our HIAB-equipped vehicles, we were able to complete the lift smoothly and efficiently. The crane’s reach and control allowed us to lift each sauna unit cleanly over the promenade edge and set it down exactly as required. Operations like this highlight why HIAB cranes are such a versatile solution for restricted-access sites.

Precision on the Promenade
Accuracy was critical, not just for the placement of the saunas, but also to protect the surrounding promenade and coastline. Each unit was positioned with care, ensuring the installation stayed on schedule and the area could quickly return to normal use.
